This letter was sent to Paul Hartshorn, chair of the Waitsfield Select Board.
At its June 6, 2013, meeting the board of directors of the Waitsfield Historical Society adopted the attached resolution in support of the adaptive use of the historic Methodist Church for town offices.
The Waitsfield Historical Society has worked over 40 years in the interest of the town and village historic district. We ask that the select board give this resolution full consideration.

The resolution follows:
“A resolution supporting the adaptive use of the historic Methodist Church for town offices.
“Whereas historic preservation is an important part of the Waitsfield Historical Society’s mission and the Waitsfield Village Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is of major interest and concern for the Society, and
“Whereas it has been determined that the Town Offices must be moved from the Joslin Library to a location that is not prone to flooding and is preferably within the village, and
“Whereas the Methodist Church is a major historic building that is under-utilized, is for sale and can be easily adapted for Town Office use; and is structurally sound and has sufficient space for current needs, as well as future expansion, and
“Whereas the Church building has a civic presence and is strategically located on Main Street, close to the Joslin Library and many other village center activities, therefore, be it
“Resolved that the Waitsfield Historical Society Board of Directors supports and encourages the Town to rehabilitate and adapt the historic Methodist Church for new Town Offices and appropriate civic use.”
