To the Editor:

Kudos to The Valley Reporter for putting last week’s questions about water system costs and communications to the select board candidates. Their answers were revealing. Boiled down, Charlie Hosford and Sal Spinosa said that it was okay to give assurances to residents—i.e., only users will pay for hydrants—and, a couple of years later, change that to now everybody has to pay. Chris Pierson and Scott Kingsbury found that lack of continuity unacceptable. Re communications, Charlie and Sal said that the select board was doing its job. Voters who wanted information should just look harder for it. Chris and Scott said that communication is the select board's responsibility—whatever that takes.

While recognizing and thanking Charlie and Sal for countless selfless hours devoted to town government, I'm much more comfortable with Chris and Scott’s responses to these and other important questions and will be voting for them. It's time for change.
