To The Editor:
Please consider putting an end to reckless spending over the issue of a new town office: $2.4 million for the church site, $1.7 million for the Farm Stand site, $20,000 for the Birke Photography site when there is already another buyer for it and the owners are even considering rebuilding that little white icon of our historic district; not to mention needed road and culvert projects, $500,000 for the town garage, and a requested increase in the school budget.
At its meeting on Monday night, the select board scrapped the idea of the church. So there will be a vote at Town Meeting to choose the Farm Stand even though at a previous meeting, there was a majority of voters in favor of the church option. Please consider voting no to the Farm Stand. Another option to consider is the old Troll Shop across the street from Akes’ Den. It has plenty of room for the town office as well as a lot of parking space and a barn which could become a meeting place.
Although we badly need a new town office, we also need to make intelligent choices which solve problems in a cost-effective manner.
