Using Sweet Pea as an example, I can't believe the derogatory terms in last week's letter expecting this small family-owned business, with huge amounts of prep-work, excellent cooking and other foods, to open early, especially with travel, family and little to no time off.  There is such a thing as planning ahead by customers -- lots of us do!

Even when living for 16 years in lower Hudson Valley suburbs, I shopped "locally" when possible, to keep profits at home.  Surrounded by box stores, that's pretty impossible there now, I imagine.

In addition, I wonder how many people cost small businesses thousands of dollars a month by using credit and debit cards instead of cash for small purchases.  It's time for some people to understand and to think of others, not just their own convenience.  Accommodation works both ways.
