At the Catamount Trail Association, our main goal is to protect a
300-mile backcountry ski trail, whether on public land or via trail
easements on private lands. Our trail protection goals are motivated by
a much deeper desire to conserve the landscapes we love and to ensure
public access to natural areas and working landscapes for all to
enjoy.
This is a goal we share with many other individuals and organizations
across the state. Without VHCB funding, the state risks irreparable
damage to landscapes and the quality of life that make Vermont what it
is today.
There is only one Vermont. We have a strong tourist industry and
citizens who take great pride in their lands and communities. VHCB
plays a major role in conserving the physical and cultural landscapes
that make this state unique. It has a demonstrated 22-year track record
of leveraging its funds fourfold and creating more than 9,400
permanently affordable homes, conserving over 490 farms and 250,000
acres of forests and natural areas.
Sacrificing VHCB's conservation work means losing jobs in the
construction industry, losing financially sustainable farms, and losing
valuable tourist dollars. Conservation and affordable housing need to
happen now. What we put off now will cost us much more down the road.
