In this case, the first driver slowed down and then accelerated past and the second driver closely followed the first. Finally, after my children started to step into the road, the third driver sped by. The third driver was not immediately following the second. I would like to remind drivers that school is still in session.
The penalty for running past a school bus with its red lights on is a $228 ticket and five points on your driving record, but of course the ultimate penalty could be much more dire.
I would also like parents to remind their children to look to the bus driver for guidance for when it is okay to cross the road to get on the bus. The bus driver has a good vantage point and will typically wave a child across when he/she feels it is safe to cross.
And finally...a reminder that the maximum speed limit on Route 100 is 50 miles per hour.
