Does anyone else agree that perhaps with the price of oil skyrocketing along with gas prices at the pump, perhaps it is time to think about promoting year-round public bus transit from The Valley to both Waterbury and Montpelier, with connections to all Valley towns? I know it failed due to low ridership several years ago when WHEELS was in charge, but perhaps it is now time for all of us to make a serious commitment to preserving our environment and learning to ride rather than drive on a regular basis.
Also, with the low ridership on Valley school bus routes, perhaps it is time to think about discontinuing contracts with private bus companies, and thinking about using GMTA for ALL bus transit, just as CCTA does in Burlington. It is my understanding that we are unable to use a nonprofit corporation, as long as towns are utilizing for-profit bus services. Isn't this strange?
Perhaps parents could ride to work with their children on the same busses!
