Yes, it is sad to see the Market lose this location which so many local residents value but the attempt to pull this community into an emotional dispute which has clearly run its course is only magnifying the agony. The Rootsworks' board members are all volunteers. They have been worn down by the grinding lease negotiations and want to move on.
If we accept the basic democratic idea that there is truth in the majority then the Rootworks' board's unanimous vote not to renew the Schoolhouse Market's lease speaks for itself. It sometimes becomes impossible and counter-productive for two disagreeing parties to continue negotiation or mediation and it is really not fair to ask the board to reconsider their decision when there was no dissent in the first vote. It is also unfair to ask the Warren Select Board members to abrogate a legal lease based on so little fact and so much emotional hearsay.
