At the last Harwood concert, March 22, we were treated to "Overture for Woodwinds" by Sparks, performed by the Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band followed with "Aquarium" by De Meij, "Gallery" by Dello Joio, and "Among the Clouds" by Balmages. Then the 75-member chorus took the stage. They were accompanied by pianists Susan Nicholas and graduating senior and salutatorian Hannah Lincoln. There were percussionists, a flutist, and a soprano soloist. Together, they performed an interpretation of "Carmina Burana" by Orff. It was sung in both Latin and German and was simply magnificent! This accomplishment could not have been possible without the dedication and inspiration of the Harwood Music Department staff and faculty.
In order to lend our support and encouragement to such talent and accomplishment, the Friends of Harwood Music was created. FOHM is comprised of parents, students, community members, and anyone who loves and appreciates Harwood music. If you are not yet a member of this group, you are cordially invited to join us. Please visit our website www.friendsofharwoodmusic.org or call 244-5186, extension 160, for more information.
We are also raising funds to purchase a new piano. The current piano is 30 years old. With a new piano for the stage, the old piano could be moved to the band room for practice and rehearsals. To date, $7,000 has been raised. We need help from the community. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to this worthy cause. You can send any contribution to our Buy A Key campaign.
