He said to me that he had no idea that he hit anyone at all, and was genuinely surprised. It is totally unacceptable to me that an "emergency responder" can cause such an accident himself and be totally unaware of it.
It's a good thing it was just me in my car at the side of the road; it could have very easily have been a person or child standing there. But this man truly had no idea he had hit another car while driving -- ignoring the fact that he completely spun out 180 degrees (he said, "I thought I hit some loose gravel"). For the record -- he hit my car with such force my front end needed to be completely replaced. That's a lot of "loose gravel."
This does not make me feel safe on our roads at all, especially if there happens to be a local emergency responder anywhere near me.
