On Wednesday, November 1, a surgeon who specializes in this type of surgical procedure repaired the damage to his neck and fused C1 through C4 to provide Leo with stability when he is able to move about again.

As of Tuesday, November 6, Leo is still making slow but steady progress, and the neurologist is still optimistic about his potential for recovery. It is our hope that he is weaned from the ventilator sometime in the next few days, and that he begins to wake up and become more aware of his surroundings.

Our family has been coming to help Nancy, Leo's wife, in South Carolina. June Defreest is caring for my father's horses and keeping the farm running. We would ask that you all pray for healing for Leo and for patience for our family to watch and wait for Leo to heal.

An email list has been started with regular updates on Leo's condition, if you would like to be a recipient, please drop me a line at  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Cards can be sent to: Leo and Nancy Benjamin, 229 Bluffwood Road, Wagener, SC 29164 (please, no flowers).
