This is an update. The recruiters were in Harwood Union High School on September 20 and are scheduled to return on October 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parents, you might want to talk to your children about what it means to enlist and to sign a binding contract. You might want to take a look at some of the stories about current military personnel who have been filing for conscientious objector status. There was a radio interview this past week about this topic on Democracy Now (democracynow.org). You can catch this program on WDEV (96.1FM) and local WMRW (95.1FM). The Friends Service Committee, which is the Quaker organization, also has searchable links available: www.afsc.org. Democracy Now (democracynow.org) also has information.
As a lesson in civil democratic action, one of my other suggestions is to just keep your child home that day and home study the Vermont and U.S. Constitutions - and then send them to school after 1 p.m.
