The new Warren town garage is still being proposed to enter into a dangerous intersection on Route 100 in Warren where the north entrance to and from Warren Village Main Street, West Hill Road, Vaughn Brown Road, and Route 100 traffic going north and south converge. Route 100 in that section has a 50 mph speed limit.
The safety issues of the town of Warren and public of this intersection should be addressed first in regards to plans for the moving/building of a new Warren town garage. There is a growing group of concerned residents that have appealed to the Warren Select Board on multiple occasions to address these safety issues of this intersection with VTrans before going forward with the plans to build the new town garage; adding to the dangers and difficulties of this intersection.
We were informed through a post in the Front Porch Forum that the Warren Select Board met with VTrans. Photos of accidents which have occurred since last fall 2004 at this intersection and input from those witness to the accidents at this intersection could have been provided had we been given prior notification of this meeting with VTrans.
We have been described as “inconvenienced neighbors” and this is hardly the case. We are citizens about the safety of our villagers and the public safety of those others passing through our town limits and utilizing this five-way intersection. The photos and our consistent attention at select board meetings where we have provided input need to be acknowledged and addressed. We have been voicing these concerns to the select board for months. Is the need to move the town garage to this intersection more important than our public safety and the residents of our town? Why is this very dangerous intersection not being addressed before the proposal of moving the town garage and adding large utility trucks to the mix? This must be addressed and attended to by VTrans before plans for building a new town garage go forward.
