To The Editor:
I am writing to you from Canada to say thank you, sincerely, to the citizens of Waitsfield who turned out to protest the presence of JD Vance at your ski resort.
The antics of this man and his boss are infuriating, to say the least. Their treatment of President Zelensky was horrid and, sadly, reflects badly on your country.
Our country is under siege by Trump's threatened tariffs which he fails to understand will hurt Americans as much as Canadians. That we have a "free" trade agreement appears not to matter. That we have been friends, neighbors and allies appears not to matter.
Please know that Canadians who booed your national anthem at sporting events meant no disrespect to you as citizens, but rather were expressing their anger and frustration at a man who fails the meaning and importance of friendship at every turn.
We Canadians have found within ourselves a renewed sense of pride in our country and determination to avoid American products at all costs until this mess is sorted out. For that we can thank Trump. Maple Leaf flag sales are booming. We are united in our opposition to the two men who are your own worst enemies.
I sure hope that enough Americans can stand up, as Waitsfield did on Saturday, to stand against this madness. It was heartening to see the news coverage of your courage.
