I am loving Kathy Mehuron’s stories in her “Take Me Back” series. After reading her piece on Thelma Ricketts, I wanted to share a few more tidbits that I learned in talking with the early Prickly Mountain folks. One quote that was echoed by many was her terse response to one of her diners at that family-style table. “Well, there’s a gal what don’t like her potatoes!”

And I remember the egg buyers among us, when looking at the cartons of eggs out on her porch being told: “You know, you don’t need to refrigerate them…” We must have bought crates, all told.

Thelma hosted and nurtured many in her long life, and the memories that people have shared are surely only a small fraction of those she so uniquely created. I look forward to many more profiles of our hardy past residents.
