To The Editor:

Afghanistan. Twenty years and it all is for naught. The people of this tragically beleaguered nation are now right back where they were when we first went in there – under the control of the Taliban. And once again al Qaeda (and probably ISIS) will likely not be far behind. Besides training an army that would not fight, what exactly have we accomplished in all this time? And what will be the fate of the former friends and allies who we are seemingly abandoning in our precipitous withdrawal? Not our problem, I guess. This (mis)adventure never seemed like it would end well, and apparently it hasn’t. So, I suppose all we can now say is better luck next time.
