To The Editor:

Another year has passed and yet another dog issue has been published in The Valley Reporter. Hey, I get it people like dogs. Truth be told I like some of them too and don't begrudge an entire issue dedicated to these fine beasts (even with the token cat story). I merely ask that we felines get our due. It has been an especially difficult year for everyone but I would argue that the dogs got the "better end of the stick" and are enjoying the impacts of the pandemic. They just love having their "masters" around more, taking them on walks and paying even more attention to them than usual.

For us, who have no "masters," it has been an unusually difficult year. We have had our lives completely turned upside-down and not for the better. Our people, forced to work remotely and socially distance, rarely leave home anymore. In normal times I had the house to myself, moving only when the sun’s rays moved. These days they always seem to be around and it is messing up my routine of sleeping, eating, sleeping, defecating and sleeping again. Frankly, it's been more than a little disconcerting as our normal lives have been completely thrown out of whack. Combine this with the fact that cats can get COVID while dogs apparently have immunity, it makes for a truly stressful situation for our kind.

Recently, there has been some monumental research done by the people at Animal Patient, a website dedicated to animal health. They have found that Vermont is the biggest cat-loving state in the union. Yes, it's true! Vermont has more cats (230,000) than dogs (140,000) with more households with cats (49.5%) than those with canines (37.7%). You can see all the facts at; https://animalpatient.com/united-states-dog-cat-care.

There is enough divisiveness in our country these days and I don't mean to add to it in any way. I merely ask that at some point The Valley Reporter, our esteemed local news source, consider publishing a "Cat Issue" and give us felines the respect we deserve. We won't take this lying down (well actually I guess we do). Thank you in advance for your consideration.
