To The Editor:

Amurtel, an international nonprofit working with disaster relief and with offices in Waitsfield, is preparing our response to the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian devastated so many of the islands there.

We have two SOS units (Solar Outreach Stations) sitting in Puerto Rico and one in Massachusetts, that can go immediately and provide power to charge cellphones, laptops, tool battery packs and small appliances, as well as purify 600 gallons of water a day. Each trailer will also be packed with supplies such as tarps, water, prepared food, etc.

If you would like to help send the units over, please make a tax-deductible donation to Amurtel, either by mailing a check to P.O. Box 232, Warren, VT 05674, or by going to our website, www.amurtel.org, and putting Dorian in the purpose on the online form.

One challenge is to find a way to get each unit over. If anyone has contacts with shipping or large boats in the Caribbean, we would love to speak with you. Thanks much.
