To The Editor:
Yesterday during my staff meeting at work, we did a listening activity that started with reviewing inspirational quotes and choosing one that resonated with us. The one I chose was this gem from Bobby Kennedy:
“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
I loved the notion of a "tiny ripple of hope" spreading out across the land, and when I heard this morning that both Mad River Glen and Sugarbush Resort are offering free lift tickets to government workers who are on furlough or not getting paid right now, I felt the ripple of hope that these two ski areas sent out into the world. I am proud to patron these two local businesses with heart. Thank you for acting to improve the lot of others, to give a day of joy and for hope that kindness is alive and well in our small corner of the Earth.
I am inspired to donate my not-being-used skis and boots. ... Maybe some others will chip in for free equipment for these families, too?
