To The Editor:
As chair of the Mad River Valley Planning District subcommittee that is proposing the For Local Opportunities (FLO) initiative, I’d like to emphasize the fact that this proposal is the result of several years of Valley community engagement in the form of workshops, forums, studies and consultation with folks from towns and villages across the state and region with challenges and opportunities similar to our own.
This initiative would invest locally raised tax dollars for much needed local projects, such as workforce housing, destination marketing, recreation and job creation. The towns of Warren, Waitsfield and Fayston would control the administration and management of these projects. As voters and taxpayers, we frequently complain of our lack of local control and budget limitations. This initiative concretely and constructively addresses that concern.
I urge you all to learn more about the FLO initiative that has been proposed. Our FLO committee meetings are warned and posted at the town offices in each town and at the MRVPD website (www.mrvpd.org).
We will be meeting with the Fayston, Waitsfield and Warren select boards next Tuesday evening, November 13, 7 p.m. at the Waitsfield town office. These are public meetings – please attend, learn about our work and ask questions! Don’t hesitate to contact members of our committee for more information:
