To the Editor:

In regard to last week’s letter about Mike Mulvaney, Mr. Dodds painted a very biased and erroneous picture of Mr. Mulvaney’s speech. Not surprisingly, the more liberal press cherry-picked his words which suggest he was a “slave to lobbyists.” His exact words: “We had a hierarchy in my office, in Congress. If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you. If you came from back home and sat in my lobby, I talk to you without exception, regardless of the financial contribution.”

Mulvaney indicated that he cared about what his constituents had to say – and didn’t care about lobbyists whether they had contributed to him or not. However, not surprisingly, the media omitted that last line in their coverage in an attempt to paint him as yet another corrupt conservative politician. I encourage Mr. Dodds to read the full transcript of his speech to see the reality: www.documentcloud.org/documents/4446622-Transcript-Mulvaney-ABA-Conference-4-24-2018.html.
