To The Editor:
(This is an open letter to the Harwood Union High School community.)
This is a plea for help! Please read through and share with anyone who may be interested! If you have a student in the high school, they are most likely benefiting from the work we do.
Many parents say, “I can't join the Boosters, but let me know when you need help."
I am telling you, "We need your help." We need people to join the club, come to the one-hour meeting once a month, and volunteer to help, according to your capacity. The future of the club depends on it.
We currently have a very limited number of parents who are involved and will soon be saying goodbye to our senior parents as they move on through graduation. I will be stepping down after this semester, as I have served for the last three years and it is time for incoming parents to get involved and bring fresh eyes and new energy to the group.
I'm not sure if everyone is aware of the work we do and the impact we have.
Club Support: The concessions that run throughout the year help raise money for the various clubs, classes and teams, that sign up to run them. We deposited thousands of dollars, last year alone, in activity accounts for groups like Student Council, She's the First, Best Buddies, baseball, basketball, and Sustainability Club to name a few.
Scholarships: We provide three senior scholarships every year, available to all students who will be furthering their education.
Championship Banners: We order, purchase and display all the championship banners that are in the gymnasium. We have a beautiful display compared to many competing schools, without soliciting corporate sponsors.
These are just a few of the things we currently do. We are open to doing more as new members join and bring new visions and energy to the table. We currently have in excess of $30,000 in our accounts.
The work is minimal when we have enough parents but overwhelming when only three or four of us are getting it done.
The entire Harwood community will benefit from your time, you will benefit as you connect with your community and your children will benefit as you mentor good citizenship through your volunteerism.
Everyone is welcome to join us for any and all of our monthly meetings listed below in the Harwood cafe. Hope to see you there.
Dates for upcoming meetings are Thursdays, February 8, March 15, April 5 and May 10.
