To The Editor:

As a World War II veteran, I was deeply moved by Win Smith’s “Hug your veterans” letter of November 10, 2016. I remember the news report of the tragic sinking of the USS Indianapolis while I was in service. At that time I was never aware of the facts relating to the incident until I read Win’s letter. It is so sad that so many unsung heroes were never properly acknowledged.

Perhaps it would be appropriate to erect a modest monument at Sugarbush in remembrance of those, especially Admiral Charles Butler McVay III, for their heroism.
