To The Editor:

The senseless death of my grandson, Cyrus Zschau, was a devastating loss to all who loved, admired and enjoyed being around this kind, bright, witty boy who had such promise.

Yet in the midst of overwhelming sorrow, this community responded with generosity, thoughtfulness, empathy and love. This both sustained us and brought us peace.

There are many who decry a lack of community in our modern world, and see it as a cause of societal ills. They clearly have not been to the Mad River Valley – this small, beautiful corner of the world, where the tragedy of one is the tragedy of all.

With thanks to all who have been there for Sarah, Chris, Charlie and all of Cy's family in our time of great need.
