To The Editor:

I have a modest suggestion to make. Why don’t we combine all the schools in Vermont into one enormous boarding school? This could potentially save a stupendous amount of money and there is currently a very large hotel in financial distress up in the Northeast Kingdom that we might be able to scoop up for “$1 and other considerations” (as the lawyers say) that could conceivably be converted for the purpose. Much administrative redundancy (and staffing) could be eliminated, programs such as foreign language, art, PE, and AP classes could be offered to those who normally wouldn’t get them and bus trips would be reduced only to holiday periods.

I suggest the consolidation board make studying this proposal one of their first priorities and if it proves to be infeasible, maybe we could go in the direction of eliminating schools altogether and switching to online home study. Local schools seem to be passe and online education is probably the wave of the future anyway.
