To The Editor:
Friends: What a place! The rivers and streams, such hills, fields and forests ... and mountains. Great neighbors and services. Truly, the Mad River Valley is a cosmopolitan oasis amidst unparalleled beauty.
Let’s join together to celebrate a vibrant hospitality sector. Should not the notion of public meeting rooms be treasured? How many social opportunities exist in Central Vermont, short your odd cheesemaking class or dowsing workshop?
The Den, The Backroom, Old Tymes, Little John's, Beggar’s and Rosita’s, The Tavern, Gag’s, and The Blue Tooth, Phoenix I and II. ... How many bars are left?
I met a man some 10 years ago opening a watering hole locally. "Some nerve," I surmised. Running a bar is an endless stream of thankless tasks which the customer will only notice if neglected or performed shoddily. In short: not easy work.
I would like to thank all the special people who spend days, nights, weekends and holidays to serve such fine fare with such excellent style. I hope you will join me in raising a figurative glass to all who make this such a great place to live and visit.
Thank you and happy Labor Day.
