Many, many thank yous to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department for hosting the Granville-Hancock rabies clinic this year. Without their generosity, I would still be looking for an appropriate location. Thank you to Dr. Roy Hadden and Donna Principe Smith from Valley Animal Hospital, Waitsfield, for, once again, being our attending veterinarian and assistant. Other than one Chihuahua, none of the dogs seemed to notice the tall man leaning over them delivering the quick bee sting. Thank you to Mark Belisle, Hancock and Rochester's Animal Control Officer, who tended to the line of people and pets formed outside the fire department.

It was impressive to have him warn me of dogs with food allergies as they entered; I held the distracting biscuit in my hand. Thank you to Kathy Werner, Granville town clerk, and Sarah Deering, Hancock town clerk, for being on-site to register dogs for their local license. For those living in these two towns, you made licensing easy and convenient.

Thank you to Granville Select Board member Cheryl Sargeant who stepped up to the plate in advertising the event when the flu reached up and pulled me under the blanket.

After all was said and done, the clinic had people and their pets from five Vermont towns. Owning a pet comes with responsibility, not only to your beloved pet but to family members and the community. Please make sure your pets are up to date on their vaccination against this deadly virus. Kudos to all the good folks who made an evening's rabies clinic successful.
