To The Editor:
After reading the police report in last week's Valley Reporter regarding excessive drinking at the Warren Fourth of July parade, I contacted Washington County Sheriff's Department to ask for a clarification. While the report implies that "alcohol consumption (was) not being contained to the designated area" and was noted as "widespread across the area," subsequent conversations with both The Mad Taco staff (designated and licensed beer vendor) and Lt. Bret Meyer revealed that it was coolers and containers that were brought to the field by individuals that appeared to be the issue. While signage has not been necessary for the last several years, beginning in 2015 there will be prominent signage noting that no alcohol is allowed on the grounds except that purchased and consumed in the designated fenced-in area. Mad Taco will significantly increase the fencing and staffing for 2015 as well.
