Hawaiian fried rice - Recipe from Hormel

Also known as “Hawaiian Steak” or Spam and Pineapple Fried Rice

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • I tablespoon Sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups SPAM®, chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, diced
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 3 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4 cups cooked long-grain white rice, cooled to room temperature
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, cut into ½-inch dice

Garnish: chopped green onion, chopped cilantro leaves

In a small bowl whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil and Sriracha sauce. Set aside. In a large 12-inch skillet, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium-high heat until just smoking. Add Spam and next four ingredients, and cook, stirring occasionally for 5-7 minutes or until lightly browned. Add garlic and ginger, stir and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add eggs to skillet, stirring constantly until eggs are cooked. Add rice and soy sauce mixture to skillet, stir until combined and rice is heated through. Remove from heat and stir in pineapple. Serve immediately.
