With this special Fun in the Sun issue, The Valley Reporter celebrates all the ways there are to have fun outside during summer in the Mad River Valley.
We invite all locals and visitors alike to join us in celebrating the elusive yet beautiful summer in The Valley and Vermont.
Think like a Yankee in a state where it rains or snows or is cold and muddy a lot – if the sun is shining (or at a minimum if it’s not raining) go outside and play. Or go outside and eat some of the amazing fare that is found from Warren to Waitsfield to Moretown.
Listen to music and see some art and theater. Go hiking – either a serious hike from the top of the App Gap up to General Stark’s Mountain at the top of Mad River Glen or take it easy and hike 25 minutes south from the top of Lincoln Gap to Sunset Ledge where the views are vast to the west, north and south.
Ride a bike – either a cruiser down Waitsfield’s Common Road or get ambitious and ride up the App Gap and beyond. Golf, ride a horse, play tennis, swim, go soaring – you will run out of day before you run out of fun.
Make sure you attend the Warren Fourth of July parade. Just do it. Rain or shine. This is one party that is so unique you’ll have a hard time describing the huge party in the streets that takes place before and after the parade, or the funky, political, satirical parade where every single year U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is greeted like a rock star. Stick around after the party and enjoy the street dance that takes place in front of The Warren Store or head up to Brooks Field for more food, fun and music.
Don’t miss the fireworks later that night at Sugarbush. Set against the mountains and the dusk – it’s stellar.
We’re proud of our Fourth of July celebration and we want everyone to experience it. Likewise we’re proud of our beautiful Valley and all the many, many ways there are to explore it.
