Local residents who ventured out to dine this week could easily be
misled as to the condition of the economy. Favorite haunts, for the
most part, were looking like the good ole days. Most restaurants were
pleasantly crowded. One could easily declare, "What recession?"
In any case, the large crowds were great to see. Hotel, inn, and
vacation home lights were ablaze in almost all parts of The Valley.
But the very recent rain and warmer weather put a hold to that wish and
placed the success of the Presidents Week in jeopardy. Skiing and
snowboarding has always been a weather-dependent business that required
large doses of cooperation from Mother Nature along with the huge
expense and talent of grooming and snowmaking.
Frequently, skiing as a business and as a sport is saved by Mother
Nature. And if the weather people are correct, this week may yet turn
out to be blessed with lots of fresh snow to make the rest of the ski
vacation week a plus for all the families and groups who traveled here
for the winter vacation and the joy of skiing and riding.
And a good start toward a strong bailout for all of The Valley
businesses. Of course, big help is needed from all of the
meteorologists.
Ahh -- Let It Snow!
