Every year at this time, our bounty literally overflows as local farmers slaughter their turkeys and sell off the last of their storage crops. We know it as the season of construction paper pilgrims, funky gourds, sage stuffing, marshmallow sweet potatoes and fresh-baked apple pie. But while many residents have everything they need to enjoy the holidays, many do not.
Every year, the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council's (MRVIC) Turkey Project provides a full Thanksgiving dinner to local families in need, and there's still time to donate food or funds (see information below). But even once November has come and gone, the giving season continues.
This year, you can help ensure families have hearty meals as we come into Christmas and Hanukkah by continuing to donate to the Mad River Valley Food Shelf. You can help your neighbors heat their houses as the weather grows colder by donating to the Mad River Valley Community Fund. You can help those with disabilities get out and enjoy the fresh snow by donating to Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports. You can help friends affected by mental illnesses by donating to Hannah's House.
