To the miscreants who vandalized Wu Ledges:
You and your graduation are neither greater nor more important than the beauty of Wu Ledges and the panorama they offer of our Valley. Your painting of an American flag on the ledges is an injustice to our flag.
Graduating from high school is a big deal and an important milestone but not one that is appropriate to celebrate in this pristine area.
Your graffiti is not cute. It is not funny. It is not a youthful prank. What you've done does not reflect well on the Class of 2014 and Harwood Union and our community.
In what universe can your actions be considered appropriate? You have defaced a natural feature of The Valley that one family cared enough about to donate to the town of Waitsfield so that we can all have access to that beautiful and special place.
Your vandalism is visible from Route 100 and when the leaves fall it will be even more visible. Did you really think the rest of us would rather see your school and graduation year than the beauty of those ledges when we travel up and down Route 100?
This was no spur-of-the-moment prank. Your vandalism took some planning. You carried several different colors of paint out to the rocks and spent a fair amount of time defacing them.
And in that time you besmirched the rock ledges where we go to sit and admire the view. Now we have to look at your paint.
Is this how you want to remember your high school graduation in 10 years? In 20? Will you show that graffiti to your future spouses and children with pride?
As wanton and destructive as your actions may be, we sincerely hope you will realize the stupidly of your actions and fess up. We join with the rest of The Valley in asking graduates to look around them for the culprits and urging them to come clean and clean up the mess they made.
Please use wire brushes and no solvents in the pristine environment.
