Through a French learning program, www.adoptanescargot.com, students officially adopt an escargot and think up all kinds of projects for them. Last spring they designed outfits for their bébés, then filmed and narrated as they slid down the runway.

The students helped to construct the set and lighting under the direction of their teacher Madame Nikki (who filmed, edited and was awarded Best Director, by the way). A second film Le mariage des escargots (The Escargot Wedding) garnered awards for Best Acteur (Lucie Banevicius for her escar-groom “Adwolf”), Best Actress (Emma Helmken for the moving performance by “Mélodie” the escar-bride), and Best Supporting role (Maggie Nowlan who officiated the
ceremony).

“Everyone worked beaucoup and we all very proud of them. When asked what their next will be, they announced that they have just finished shooting a new thriller La maison hantée (The Haunted House). C’est fantastique,” Madame Nikki reported. Notes to Lisa: titles in French are only capitalized at the beginning. I hope the accents went through. Marriage in French has only one ‘r’.
