We submitted those petitions to the Moretown Select Board at the meeting on October 6, 2008, for their consideration. One hundred seventy signatures were submitted at that time. An additional 30 signatures were lost in a tragic house fire and therefore were not submitted. Two hundred signatures represent almost 15 percent of the registered voters of Moretown and nearly 50 percent of the average voter turnout in most townwide elections.

Moretown is spread out geographically and the limited time we had to collect signatures prevented us from physically reaching other supporters for more signatures. Many others supported our petition but preferred not to sign to protect their anonymity for obvious reasons.

On another note, the select board responded to our concerns voiced at the well-attended and published September 2 meeting. This letter was unacceptable and we intend to bring that to the board on a point-by-point basis on October 20.

Welcome one and all to that meeting.
