To The Editor:
Rochester's 800 registered voters had before them last week a very important yearly school budget vote. This vote was by Australian ballot with the option of absentee voting. The weather was great, so why did only 20 percent vote?
After two years on the school board, how can I understand the desires of my community if it does not vote? Only 171 folks voted on a $3.2-plus million budget, a large amount for a small town with a shrinking enrollment. The Rochester Public School system is the town's largest employer. Might its employees hold a strong voting block? The budget passed 96 to 75. Will taxpayers vote next year for an even larger budget? And the year after that even more?
Taxpayers, please learn about the issues, understand that you have choices and, most importantly, vote!
