To The Editor:
Since the select board agrees with the office task force and voted in favor of their decision to build a new office building, while not supporting and finding a way to reuse and rebuild the historical Methodist church to house our town office, as well as maintain the historical significance of the historic district on Route 100, why would they support the rebuild and reuse of the covered bridge on Bridge Street when they could buy a prefabricated steel and concrete bridge to cross the Mad River?
Biking thousands of miles through many Vermont towns, I am always impressed by the pride and rebuilding going on by both private and tax dollars of Vermont's historical houses, bridges and buildings. In the Mad River Valley, which is basically a tourist industry-dominated economy, one of the attractions is the historical buildings and their attachment to authentic American history (not new buildings built to look like they fit in). To me it is unthinkable to not rebuild both the bridge and the church.
