To The Editor:

Lord Romney, speaking to a gathering of his loyal dukes, duchesses and lesser nobles last spring, was quite clear: “There are 47 percent who are with [Obama], who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it … these are people who pay no income tax.” Moochers. Lazybones. You know the labels. But do you know these people specifically? Let me introduce you to a few of them by name.

Pepco Holdings, General Electric and Pacific Gas and Electric. Wisconsin Energy, Center Point Energy and Consolidated Edison. Tenet Healthcare, Boeing and Verizon, Ryder, Mattel and Corning.

Every one of them paid no income tax. Indeed, according to the Center for Tax Justice, over the last four years, taxpayers paid them and 18 other major corporations more than $78 million. Put another way, CTJ is making the point that you paid their corporate taxes for them.

And corporations are people, my friend. Lord Romney told us that one too. Some are just lazier and more dependent on government than others.

Unless, of course, you are one of the 35,000 people making more than $200,000 who paid no income taxes either.
