The drive was extremely successful last winter thanks to all of the people in the community who donated. There are still many African-Americans living in Vermont right now who don't have enough money to buy clothes for winter, and without them it would be really hard to survive the Vermont winters. The Association started a garden program and the new Vermonters were promoting eating local foods and were selling their produce throughout Burlington. They were unfortunately also hit by Hurricane Irene and lost all of their produce.
The Harwood Union Peace Alliance also recognizes that many of our community members were devastated by the flood, and we do not expect a large number of donations. If you can donate anything it would be greatly appreciated, but we do understand that there have already been many donations given and received these past few months.
The members of the Harwood Peace Alliance have put boxes in all the schools throughout our district – at Harwood Union, Crossett Brook and Thatcher Brook. There will also be boxes at Moretown Elementary, Warren Elementary, Waitsfield Elementary and Fayston Elementary. We will be doing the drive through November 30.
Please take advantage of this opportunity and sort through all your old winter clothing and put it in one of the boxes in your area.
