Mad River Chorale celebrates 25th anniversary

The Mad River Chorale, a community chorus of about 50 singers based in Waitsfield and conducted by Arthur Zorn, will celebrate the finale of its 25th year with “The Splendor of Christmas,” this year’s celebration of the holiday season.

The concerts will take place on Saturday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the Waitsfield United Church Village Meeting House, and Sunday, December 10, at 3 p.m., at the Waterbury Congregational Church White Meeting House.

The chorale, founded in January 1993, presented its first concert at the Round Barn in June 1993, performing the Vivaldi “Gloria” among other pieces. The upcoming holiday concerts will include many movements from the same Vivaldi work, a favorite of chorale singers and audiences over the years.

In addition, the ensemble will present an exciting and varied program of holiday music both sacred and secular, gentle and rousing, classical and contemporary. The singers are accompanied by two pianists – regular accompanist and concert pianist Mary Jane Austin and guest pianist Alison Cerutti – as well as percussionist Beth Ann Willey, and InoraBrass, a quintet of north country musicians (including locals Chris Rivers and Joy Worland) with more than 100 years of experience, two of them Grammy Award winners. The audience will, as always, join the chorale for some of the songs, including the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.”
