‘Knee-jerk vote’

  • Published in Letters

To The Editor:

Some state legislators (of whatever parties) tend toward a knee-jerk vote favoring the cliché "local control" whenever the topic is schools. They could benefit the public and themselves by pondering the governor’s reasoned proposal to legislate a statewide health program for teachers on a par with other government employees. The savings on costs/taxes is significant while removing one more "make-work" distraction from the school boards, allowing all hands to focus on improved quality of education - within budget - despite the shrinking student population.
