The inaugural running of the new Mad Triathlon (formerly the Sugarbush Adventure Games and nee the Sugarbush Triathlon) took place under blue skies with temperate weather for the competitors.

The race was held on May 12 with a start at Sugarbush’sLincolnPeakwhere runners ran down German Flats to Route 17 and Route 100 south to the Lareau Swim Hole. Kayakers and canoeists paddled down theMadRiverto the Turner field where cyclists rode back down Route 100 toOld County Road, Route 100, Route 17 and back up German Flats toLincolnPeak. The final leg was an on-mountain cross-country run.

In the ironwoman under-40 division, Audrey Huffman placed first with a time of 2:58:04.7. She was followed by Joanne Grogran with a time of 3:09:43.2 and Brittany Nonnio whose time was 3:17:47.0. In the ironwoman over-40 division, Winona Lowe completed the course and won her division with a time of 3:45:43.9.

In the ironman under-40 kayak division, Brodie O’Brien placed first with a time of 2:46:03.3 and Ben Brown placed second with a time of 2:47:51.2. Ironman John Maunders came in first in the under-40 with canoe division with a time of 2:54:55.9. In the ironman over-40 division, Todd Worden placed first with a time of 3:13:01.3. Javad Mashkuri placed second with a time of 3:25:50.8. 

In the corporate team with canoe division,ChamplainCollegeplaced first with a time of 2:55:42.7 while Elevation Physical Therapy placed second with a time of 3:24:23.4. In the corporate team with kayak division, Dinse/Knapp and McAndrew placed first with a time of 2:43:32.8, Hannah’s House placed second with a time of 2:46:23.9 and Smooth Finish placed third with a time of 2:49.32.4.

TheHamiltonfamily took first place that the family division with a time of 2:45:21.3, followed in second place by the Jamieson family with a time of 3:08.59.5.

In the female team with canoe class, Nancy Andrews came in first with a time of 2:40:28.0, Jessica’s Bachelorette Party came is second with a time of 3:19:41.1 and The Lovely Ladies came in third with a time of 3:37:11.1.

In the male team with canoe class, Slow Waters Run Fast placed first with a time of 3:01:31.5 and Raggamuffin Racing placed second with a time of 3:44:47.0.

In the mixed team with kayak category, Team Tri placed first with a time of 2:55:41.0, Running on Empty placed second with a time of 3:09:39.6 and Sugarbush Marketing placed third with a time of 3:11:40.3.

“Sugarbush is excited to have partnered with the creators of the Mad Marathon for the Mad Triathlon. We hope to carry on the tradition of the Sugarbush Adventure Games and increase future participation in this unique event. Racers were particularly happy with the format and everyone that participated was grateful for the amazing weather. Thank you to all those who participated, volunteered and came out to enjoy the spring celebration,” said Sugarbush president Win Smith.
