The Unconventional Terrain competition is a test of the skier's ability to conquer Mad River's legendary expert terrain, considered some of the most challenging ski terrain in New England. Judging for the event is based on smoothness, creativity, turn quality and difficulty of line.

Vertical Challenge at MRG

The Mad River Glen Vertical Challenge will take place this Friday, February 15.  The event challenges competitors to ski as many runs as they can on Mad River's famous Single Chair in one day. To make things even tougher, the competitors are required to ski directly under the chair, a route that cascades down Chute and Lift Line, two of Mad River Glen's most difficult trails. Olympic racer Doug Lewis and Mad River Glen ski patroller Tiger Baird set the record of 28 runs, or 57,036 vertical feet, in the 1999 contest. Will the new, faster Single Chair enable this record to fall? Come out on Friday to see.
