Students and organizers have been seen in the field north of the school and beyond, examining the earth's layers and what they reveal.

Geoff Mandel led a team of students from UVM and guided WES students as they discussed how the earth's stratification tells a rich story of the Mad River Valley's past. Waitsfield teachers Mr. Van Dine, Mr. Greenleaf, and Mrs. Beattie indicated that this year's focus on archeology is particularly timely as Vermont is celebrating Archaeology Month.

Giovanna Peebles, Vermont's state archaeologist, has created local projects in part to provide students the opportunity to discover the value and excitement of archaeology. For more information about Vermont's Archaeology Month, go to www.vtarchaeologymonth.com .
