Students in Amy Cavanagh’s web design course attended Entrepreneurship Day in Montpelier on Thursday, February 9.

Business people addressed the students about the steps in starting one’s own business with emphasis on creating the business plan. One business owner spoke about his three restaurants in Burlington and how he got started in this venture.

Round table discussions were held with questions about entrepreneurial skills. A luncheon followed where senators and representatives from Vermont joined the students to celebrate the Entrepreneurship Poster Contest winners.

Maddie Baughman, a sophomore at Harwood Union, received an honorary mention for her poster entry in the Vermont REAL (Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning) contest. The poster contest was for either a hand-drawn or computer design covering the characteristics of a Vermont entrepreneur. Over 50 entries were sent in from 15 schools in Vermont. Maddie entered the contest in the first semester while taking Cavanagh’s web design class and along with six other Harwood students took this contest on as an extra credit project.
