To The Editor:

To all the people of the Mad River Valley who Green Upped this year, I say a big thank you to each and every one of you. If it wasn't for all the volunteers there would be no Green Up. I'm sorry I have to admit that I wasn't here for Green Up day this year, the only time I have ever missed it. My three daughters and I were in Florida having a pre-Mother's Day reunion. I won't fly alone so my youngest daughter made the arrangements for our trip to Florida and it happened to be at the same time as Green Up. We all had a wonderful time and I managed to fly with no problem.

I managed to get my bags hung out on the signposts early so they would be there to fill. Some people like to start a few days previous to Green Up day and our wonderful Fayston road crew makes their last run to pick up bags on Monday morning. Thank you, fellows, for being there to help out for this event. They noted that 15 tires and household trash had been placed along the roads. This is more tires than the usual four or five we usually pick up. Tires can be taken to the transfer station for a small fee. Remember Green Up is for cleaning up our towns, not for private trash.

Thank you to the citizens of the Mad River Valley and especially the Faystonites for all their work. Don’t be afraid to shout out a thank you to all these volunteers and let them know what a great job they are doing. I get so angry when I see trash thrown along the roadside the day after Green Up. I guess there are some people who just don't get it.

PS: Thanks to my brother, Fred, for doing my route this year. N.M.
