| Miles Burr, Waitsfield “I'm against it. You shouldn't be charged more for something just because it has sugar in it. It's just another ingredient. If you put a tax on sugar, why not tax sodium too? Where does it end? |
Samantha Mays-Segura, Cincinnati, OH “They should not tax sweetened beverages because it's our own right to choose what to drink or eat. I understand it may be to benefit those who are having trouble with weight and the obesity problem in America. It's our own choice. Not all should be taxes or punished. And honestly do they think that will stop people? If they want a sweetened beverage they'll pay for it.” |
Mary Jo Cahilly-Bretzin, Montreal, Canada “I think it is important to advocate for a decrease in consumption of many sweetened soft drinks, from both an environmental and health- conscious standpoint. However, as far as I can tell, the tax is only meant to target sugar-sweetened beverages and not those using artificial substitutes, which I believe are associated with their own set of health risks. I cannot personally condone a legislation which will simply promote the shift from one bad product to another.” |
