Mad River Glen Para-ski event

On Friday, March 26, a small group of experienced thrill seekers will jump from a helicopter above Stark Peak and land, on skis, in the Catamount bowl atop Mad River Glen's single chair.

Para-skiing is defined as jumping by parachute from an aircraft to ski from the landing spot. A true para-ski event has not been held since the first meet in 1961 when renowned skydivers Nate Pond, Lew Sanborn and their contemporaries landed their T10s at the top of Mad River Glen's Stark Peak, strapped on their skis and raced to the bottom.

Once the jumpers land on the MRG slope, they will shed their parachutes, strap on their skis, enter the race course and ski to the finish line. All times will be recorded from exiting the aircraft until crossing the finish line; the skier with the fastest time wins. The focus of the demonstration event is on safety and fun, according to organizers.

Jumpers will meet at 8:30 on Friday morning in the MRG base lodge. Jumping will start as soon as conditions allow and will continue until 4 p.m. Observer rides are welcome and encouraged; volunteers are needed to control the landing area for each load of jumpers.
