$10,000 purse for Green Mountain Disc Golf tourney at SB

07/31/2008

There's big money to be made this weekend at Sugarbush when the Green Mountain Open Disc Golf Championship comes to the resort's Lincoln Peak. The Professional Disc Golf Association-sanctioned event begins Friday in North Calais and then moves to Sugarbush's Lincoln Peak for two days of play on both the Base and Peak disc golf courses. Total purse for the tournament: close to $10,000.

"We are really excited to be hosting the GMO," said Sugarbush's John Egan. "This is the second year in a row we've had a Professional Disc Golf Association event at the resort. Last summer we hosted the PDGA Open and had more than 100 players. This year's numbers are on that track, plus some of the nation's best competitors will be on the hill."

Aside from competing, the world's best will also be offering a free clinic Thursday evening, July 31. Des Reading, the number-one-ranked woman in the world, along with Steve Brinster (ranked 13th in the world and the designer of the Sugarbush courses) and Jay Reading (world-ranking of 20) will be conducting a free clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. at the base of Lincoln Peak near the Gate House Lodge. The event is open to the public.

The Green Mountain Open runs August 1 through 3. For registration information, visit the Events Calendar at sugarbush.com.
