Volunteers sought for disc golf tournament

Volunteers are needed to help spot and mark flying discs at Sugarbush's Green Mountain Open Disc Golf Championships to be held at Lincoln Peak on Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3.

Spotters are needed to assist the flow of players through some of the longer downhill holes on Sugarbush's Peak Course. Volunteers will be fed lunch and will receive a tournament shirt and golf disc for their efforts. Spotters should be prepared to spend four hours up on the mountain with some medium-range hiking up and down on the trails. Poor weather is always a possibility and volunteers are advised to come prepared for either a hot day or a rainy day.

Plenty of water and/or PowerAde will be provided to all spotters as well as the opportunity to watch the very best players on the planet battle the mountain and maybe the elements as they vie for top honors and top cash in this PDGA-sanctioned tournament with a purse nearing $10,000.

On Saturday, August 2, volunteers will be needed beginning at 9 a.m. and will be assigned in groups of three to cover two holes each for approximately four hours. At the end of the volunteer's "shift" they will accompany the group they are assisting down to the bottom of the mountain on foot. The last group of volunteers should expect to ride up the chair at approximately noon and return at approx 4 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, August 3, spotters will be needed from approximately 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. when the final group makes its way down the mountain.

"It's a great opportunity to learn some game strategy, watch some fantastic golf, and spend some quality time on the mountain," said spokesperson Chris Mayone.
